MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR

Dieter Hertling

As a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) with a Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience from UC San Diego, I bring a unique combination of aviation expertise, scientific research experience, and a deep understanding of how people learn.

After graduating college, I began working in a research lab focused on discovering how the brain forms specific memories and the brain circuits involved. My independent research projects have given me valuable insight into memory formation, cognitive processing, and learning strategies.

My goal at Brain Based Flight Training is to incorporate this knowledge into my flight instruction to help students develop stronger retention and decision-making skills. I apply evidence-based teaching techniques to create a learning environment that emphasizes conceptual understanding, situational awareness, and safe, confident flying.

My objective is to bridge neuroscience and aviation to help aspiring pilots become knowledgeable, adaptable, and safety-conscious aviators.

“The goal isn't just to learn the steps.
It's to understand why they work.”

03

Safety through judgment

Develop the awareness and decision-making habits that support responsible flying.
